Text: “And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.” – Deuteronomy 8: 2, 4.
Comment: The Almighty Father has always shown great care for His chosen generation, the children of Israel who, for forty long years, wandered through the wilderness to the promised land, Canaan; and despite their hardheartedness by which they provoked the LORD continually. (Psalm 95:7-11) He still cared for them, and carried them on eagles’ wings and saved them with a stretched out arm. (Exodus 19:4; Psalm 136:10-22) All of that time, they had no need for a change of clothes, or shoes, as expressed in the text for today, showing that God is always with His children even in the midst of pains. Today’s devotional further teaches that God allows suffering to test our faith in Him. – James 1:2-4.
