Text: “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.” – Proverbs 21:31.
Comment: There is nothing wrong in putting security and peaceful measures in place where ever we live, work, trade or worship. However, we should have at the back of our minds that without God, our safety measures would be null and void. (Psalm 60:11, 12) The walls of Jerusalem were built as a security measure, but was later trodden down and the gates burnt. When it was rebuilt, extra security measures were put in place to the extent that the builders built with one hand and held weapon with the other hand. However, Nehemiah right from the beginning, put God first in all he did, hence he succeeded. (Nehemiah 1: 1-11; 4:3-23, 6:14-16) Those who built Babel failed because they relegated God, building against God’s will. (Genesis 11:1-9) Truly, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain”. – Psalms 127:1, Proverbs 3:5-7; 16:9.
