Text: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.” – Matthew 23:23.
Comment: Many Christians of today behave like the Scribes and Pharisees in the days of our Lord, Jesus Christ whose behaviour Christ condemned in the text for today. Because they support the Church financially, they now think they can do as they like without recourse to God’s laws and instructions. This is wrong and can gradually make one hardened and apostate. Such one will no longer have the fear of God and will not be compassionate to his fellow man in judgement, mercy, forgiveness and even in expressing faith in God Almighty. Support to the work of God is very important, payment of tithe is obligatory to all Christians, but we should also ensure we do all these in love and in the fear of God. – Psalm 51:16, 17; Mathew 5:23-26.
