Theme: DIGNITY OF LABOUR
Text: “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.” – Proverbs 20:4.
Comment: Giving all manner of excuses for not working is the character of a lazy person, and the end of such one is suffering. “The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.” (Proverbs 26:13, 14) As he goes begging and borrowing, so his sorrow increases. The principle of self-help and hard work in the Bible is the major solution to poverty. If one fails to cover up leaking roofs and pipes and gaping holes in walls and so on, the house will be going more and more into disrepair, until it becomes uninhabitable. (Ecclesiastics 8:5). By the same token will one be in great distress if one fails to work when there is need to do so. – Proverbs 21:25.
The able-bodied youths are admonished not to be lazy and idle because they have a university education. In their own interest, they should roll up their sleeves and adjust to the shock of job scarcity, they should join their parents to do what they have been doing to train them, until they properly and lawfully fit into the society. With that, God will bless them with the desires of their hearts, and they would build not only themselves, but also their homes by the grace of God. In Ecclesiastics 11:4, it is written: “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regarded the clouds shall not reap.”
