Theme: REPENTANCE

Text: “There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger, neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.” – Psalm 38:3, 4.

Comment: A compelling motivator for repentance is the burden and bad experiences sin brings. Sin is a spiritual and physical burden which overwhelms a person. (1 Corinthians 6:18; Proverbs 6:32,33). It brings on a thick cloud of shame when exposed. (Psalm 40:12); it weakens a man (Proverbs 31:3) and makes God angry with the sinner (Psalm 7:11); thereby putting one at risk of being destroyed by God. Therefore, living in sin and refusing to repent could be referred to as “spiritual suicide”. The mind of God for all sinners is that they should repent (2 Peter 3:9). It is important to point out that God has offered forgiveness, no matter how bad the sin may be. He says: “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 55:6-8)  But if any refuses to repent and hardens his heart, such a person will suffer severe punishment from God and ultimately death. – Romans 2:4-6,8,9; Luke 13:3.
