Theme: Wilful Idleness And Willing Workers

Text: “And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.” – Luke 17:17-19.

Comment: As our Lord passed through Samaria and Galilee to get to Jerusalem, he entered a certain village where ten lepers entreated him to heal them. Seeing that they had the faith to be healed, Jesus Christ instructed them to show themselves to the priests.  The law of God provides that one who has a scab or bright spot in the skin should go to the priests to confirm if it is leprosy or not. (Leviticus 13; 14) The ten lepers obeyed the instruction given them without asking questions, which is another evidence of faith.  But as they were going, they were healed.

One of them, “when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan …”  Our Lord Jesus Christ then made the remark in the text for today, stating that though ten were healed “There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.” The record says Christ told him “Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole”. – Luke 17: 11-19

That Jesus Christ commended and blessed him shows that it is highly rewarding to always show appreciation to God for what He has done for us and to say “thank you” to anyone who does good to us.
