Theme: OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS

Text: “I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?” – Job 31:1.

Comment: One of the destructive tools which the devil uses to enslave some people today is the sin of immorality that is rampant in our society. It is no longer a new thing when a person looks carelessly at a married woman to lust after her, or a single girl or boy as the case maybe. Job made a “covenant” or agreement with his eyes, that they should not obey sinful lusts but act always in harmony with his desires to obey the laws of God as contained in the Bible. “Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread…” – Proverbs 6:25,26.

Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ warns in Matthew 5:28, “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” As worshippers of God, we must not be carried away with looks either for a man or woman but we should make deliberate efforts to discipline our eyes. The Holy Bible emphasizes the need for us to train our eyes in the part of righteousness as in the text for today so as to gain life everlasting at the end by God’s grace. – 1 Corinthians 6:9,10, Galatians 5:19-21.
