Text: “For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.” – Matthew 20:1, 2.
Comment: One of the parables given by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry was that of a man who called workers into his vineyard and at the end of the day, gave each of them a penny. The householder (also known as the “Goodman of the house” and the Lord, in the parable) refers to JEHOVAH the Almighty God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, who will save His people through Jesus Christ. (Jeremiah 10:10, 12; Genesis 14:22) In the parable, Jesus Christ stressed the certainty of JEHOVAH’S promise of everlasting life for His children who maintain the faith until the end and asserted the prerogative of God Almighty to give it to the faithful according to His will. (Psalms 3:8; 68:19, 20) We should therefore remain faithful in our service to God so as to be blessed and saved by His grace. – Matthew 24:12, 13; Hebrews 3:14.
