Theme: GREED

Text: “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” – 1 Timothy 6:6, 7.

Comment:  The text for today is an advice by St Paul that we should lead  godly lives and be satisfied with our lot in life so as not to allow greed or covetousness in wanting to get rich quick push us into sinful deeds that will make us to lose the favour of God. God forbid!

To this and, St Paul continued  “And having food and raiment, let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” – 1Tim 6: 8-10.

We should always trust in the providence of God Almighty Who, in due course, gives us richly all things to enjoy. Resorting to sinful methods in order to get the desires of our hearts is evidence of lack of faith in God expressed in unwillingness to discern what the will of the Lord is concerning our lives. “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have” writes St. Paul, “for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” – Hebrews 13:5, 6.
