Theme: The Essence of Self Comportment
Text: “And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you: Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.” – Jeremiah 35:18, 19.
Comment: The Rechabites are a good example of a people with self-comportment in that they obeyed their father Jonadab’ strict statutes, not to drink wine or strong drinks, neither to build nor live in houses but in tents. Jonadab was a righteous man who served the LORD with a perfect heart; and he considered the Spiritual health and future of his children by instilling a godly order and behaviour in them. Parents must learn to invest spiritually in the future of their children. Having been thus prepared, the Rechabites lived a life of commitment, contentment and hope in divine providence, for which God blessed them as expressed in the leading text. – Jeremiah 35:1-19.
