Theme: Some Noble Christians of the Bible

Text: “Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek.” – Acts 16:1.

Comment: Timotheus or Timothy was a spiritual son to St. Paul (1Timothy 1:2) who had a mixed racial background. His mother was a Jewess and his father a Greek. Paul commended Timothy’s spiritual upbringing through the mother, Eunice and through the grandmother, Lois. (2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15. See also Proverbs 22:6.) The brethren at Lystra and Iconium gave a good report of Timothy to Paul. Timothy was mentored by Apostle Paul, spiritually, through the whole course of his missionary activity. He accompanied St. Paul to cities like Macedonia, Philippi, Thessalonica and Berea. Paul even left him and Silas at Berea to confirm the faith of the new converts. One important landmark was that Paul sacredly entrusted Timothy to keep the doctrines of God without adulteration. – 1 Timothy 4:12-16
