Theme: WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CHRISTIAN

Text: “And forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.” – Matthew 6:12 (Living Bible).

Comment: One of the marks of true discipleship is the act of forgiveness. Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us to forgive one another for the wrong done to us. “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14, 15) Some people claim to be Christians, yet they find it difficult to forgive others who have offended them. Forgiveness excuses, absolves, pardons, acquits and does not hold the offender guilty or responsible for the offense. St. Paul exhorts: “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” – Colossians 3:12-14.
