Text: “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die. But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.” – Job 2:9,10.
Comment: Job’s wife was in despair but Job was not, despite the horrific experiences he went through. He lost everything he had, including all his children yet he was able to cope with great equanimity. The Bible says that Job “blessed the name of the LORD” and “sinned not, nor charge God foolishly”. (Job 1:21, 22) Counting our blessings in the midst of adversity is an important coping strategy that helps us to achieve inner peace and calmness. There are always good things in our lives to be grateful for, no matter how hard things may seem. The Psalmist declared: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” – Psalm 103:2; 43:5.
