Theme: WORKING OUT OUR SALVATION WITH FEAR AND TREMBLING

Text: “Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.” – 2 John verse 8.

Comment: Those who profess to serve God Almighty must constantly reflect on how they conduct themselves in the light of the Scriptures.  It is by constant checks on ourselves that we can, by God’s grace, judge if we have been measuring up to the standards required of us to enable us to remain on the right track and abide in God’s Organisation. St. Paul in his letter to the Christians at Corinth declared: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith, prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.” (2 Corinthians 13:5,6) David, the Sweet Psalmist of Israel, stressed the importance of conducting ourselves in proper manner in the service of God.  He stated: “Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling” (Psalm 2:11) It is when we diligently carry out our works of salvation with sincerity, fear of God with trembling at His word always that we would be blessed not only in this world but in the world to come be granted eternal life with other attendant blessings by God’s grace. Let us therefore examine ourselves if we are on the Lord’s side through the practice of righteousness so that “…..we should not be condemned with the world” – 1 Corinthians 11:31, 32.
