Theme: GREED

Text: “But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.” – Jeremiah 22:17

Comment: In the world today, there are some employers who oppress their employees due to greed. They do not pay their workers as at when due. Rather, they use the salaries and allowance of their subordinates to run their own businesses while their subordinates languish in financial difficulties. God Almighty pronounced woe on such employers, saying, “Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbours service without wages and giveth him not for his work” – Jeremiah 22:13.

James the apostle also came down hard on these greedy people. “Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you…Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you…. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. …Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.” – James 5:1-6.

King Solomon gave the understanding that time will come when such employers will be removed from such positions and a new employers will come on board and pay workers their outstanding salaries and allowances. “He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor” (Proverbs. 28:8)
