Theme: MEEKNESS IN GOD’S SERVICE

Text: “The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.” – Proverbs 18:11, 12.

Comment: The spirit of God in us is expressed in the virtues mentioned in the text for today. These are qualities that complement one another beautifully in the life of a worshipper of God. One of the pressures of life is the quest to become rich. But the truth is that many lives have been ruined by this drive for riches. Even the lives of others have been negatively affected by the greed of others. Money cannot buy life nor teach one godliness. Riches could lead to pride whereas the worshipper of God is required to be humble so as to be honoured by God. While it cannot be denied that money solves many problems, we should beware of striving to get rich quickly by any means for “he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent”. (Proverbs 28:20) We should note also that “An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed” and “for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.” (Proverbs 20:21; 23:4, 5) We should always look to God Who blesses us richly with all things to enjoy and preserves them for us. “Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.” – Zephaniah 2:3.
