Theme: Fortitude

Text: “And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, it is a spirit and they cried out for fear. But straightaway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; It is I; be not afraid.” – Matthew 14:25-27.

Comment: In this dramatic encounter between Jesus Christ and his apostles, the Lord made it clear that with faith all things are possible. First, against all known scientific principles, Jesus Christ walked on water. When the Apostles saw him, they thought he was a spirit, and were afraid. In life we may encounter things that are strange and seemingly impossible. We should not be afraid. If we have faith, we will keep marching on. Once we begin to entertain doubts, we will begin to lose focus. It is only when we have fortitude in all situations that we can please God. – See Matthew 21:21, 22; Hebrews 11:6.
