Text: “If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.” – Job 31:16, 21, 22.
Comment: The key text for today bespeaks of the social philosophy of Job the servant of God in regard to his relationship with his fellow men. Following accusations by his friends that his afflictions were due to his sins, Job protested his innocence and made the statements as stated in today’s text. Thus, the example of Job shows that we should always have righteous thoughts towards our fellow human beings and be considerate to servants, the poor, the widows, the fatherless and to all men. Moreover, God used Isaiah the prophet to emphasis the importance of doing good as the righteousness of God involves sharing our bread (resources) with the hungry, giving succor to the homeless and clothing those in need of covering. Those who do so shall be abundantly rewarded by God. – Isaiah 58:6-8; 1:17.
