Theme: Fortitude
Text: “Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.” – Joshua 1:6.
Comment: The essence of courage is harped on by God Himself in the text for today as He strengthens Joshua who has just taken over the mantle of leadership upon the exit of Moses. So, we learn two things in this verse. First, God expects us to be strong. He encourages Joshua to be strong and show courage. The second point is that even leaders need to be encouraged. Once God makes a promise, He will never fail. He will lead His followers to their destination as He is not a man that he should lie. (Numbers 23:19) We should remember that it is the end that matters. – Ecclesiastes 7:1, 8; Matthew 24:12,13.
