Theme: MEEKNESS IN GOD’S SERVICE

Text: “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” – Matthew 11:29.

Comment: A Christian is a follower of Christ. To be a follower of Christ means that we need to emulate as much as is humanly possible the ways of Jesus Christ. Christ said that he has given us an example that we should do as he has done (John 13:15) In the text for today, we are advised to learn of him. How then was Christ and what was His reward? Jesus Christ was persecuted, falsely accused, despised and hated. He left everything in the hands of God who judges righteously. (1 Peter 2:23) He was promoted by God and given a privilege which hitherto God had reserved for himself, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.” St. Paul went on to highlight the honours bestowed in Jesus Christ, saying: “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:5-11, Revised Standard Version.
