Theme: THE WILL OF GOD

Text: “And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” – Matthew 12:49,50.

Comment: Good understanding of the word of God means that we will refuse to do evil in the face of temptation. In Job 28;28 the Bible says: “And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” It is this understanding that signifies who we really are before God. Mary the mother of Jesus and his brethren came to him as he preached, desiring to discuss some matters with him privately. He immediately showed by the statement he made which is our text for today, that his bond to anybody is not by physical concerns but one’s willingness to obey the laws of God. People of God should be mindful of the spiritual standings of the company they keep. Some there are, who have no desire to keep the laws of God. They go further by absenting themselves from religious gatherings of the people of God in truth, thereby not availing themselves the opportunity to hear the word of God as much as possible in other that their ways may be cleansed. King David asked: “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed therefore according to thy word.” (Psalm 119:9). St Paul advised: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:25.
