Theme: COPING WITH LONELINESS

Text: “A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains…”. – Psalm 68: 5,6.

Comment: We should believe that God is the father of the fatherless, and a protector to widows. A fatherless child will always feel lonely, just as a widow would, owing to the absence of their natural benefactor. But the Bible tells us that these special persons are kept comforted by God in spirit. They are specially provided and catered for by God. The passage in question also refers to those who are in solitude owing to distressing situations, and how God will set their lives right. The message here is that persons who lack natural support, will get support and consolation from God. This means that when we feel lonely or abandoned, we should seek God. “And those that seek me early shall find me.”, so says the prophet in Proverbs 8:17 and in James 4: 8, we are told to “draw near to God and He will draw near to us”. See also Jeremiah 49:11;  Psalm 146:9;  Isaiah 1:17.
