Theme: OBEDIENCE OF THE RECHABITES

Text: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place” which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; he went out, not knowing whither he went.” – Hebrew 11:8.

Comment: When Abraham was called by God to leave his country and his people to an unknown land which God promised to give him, he was not hesitant but complied. Furthermore, on another occasion when God instructed him to offer his only son as a sacrifice, he did not budge. He did not shrink from executing this heartbreaking task. Even when Isaac the victim demanded to know where the source or object would come from, he made the now popular statement; “God will provide”. What a demonstration of faith, loyalty and obedience to God’s will!  As Abraham stretched his hand to kill him, God through his angel stopped him and provided a ram which he used for the offering. (Genesis 22:1-18) For these acts of his, he was called the friend of God and in the resurrection, Abraham will be one of the great men in God’s Kingdom on earth. (Isaiah 41:8-11, 2 Chronicles 20:7, Matthew 8:11, 12) This allegory underscores the fact that no amount of sacrifice is too much for us to make in the service of God.  Our devotion to Him should be total and unflinching by His grace. – Luke 9:22.
