Text: “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” – Hebrews 13:5.
Comment: The virtue of contentment is necessary to enable one overcome the vice of covetousness. When one is not satisfied with one has, such one will want to grab anything from anywhere without regard to righteousness just to satiate their lusts. The Bible says: “He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.” (Proverbs 28:22; Jeremiah 17:11) He added: “Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.” (Proverbs 16:8) Thus, as the leading text says, a life of contentment is free from covetousness and certain of God’s grace, providence and protection as it is written: “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” – Hebrews 13:6; Psalm 107:8, 9.
