Theme: COPING WITH LONELINESS

Text: “At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So, I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever”. – 2 Timothy 4:16-18 – English Standard Version.

Comment: This is Paul’s account of one of the persecutions which he encountered while doing the Lord’s work. He says that when he faced trial, everyone deserted him. Certainly, those who deserted him were followers or believers. When the situation became tough, they could not withstand the pressure and abandoned him. But God was with him. (Matthew 28:20;  Haggai 1:13).  The lesson here is that when we feel deserted by people in any circumstances, we should turn to God because if we do God’s righteousness, He will always be with us. God strengthens the lonely or the weak who depend on or trust in Him. (2 Corinthians 7:5-7) Loneliness can make one feel trapped, especially if it continues for too long and there is no remedy. But the presence of God in the life of the lonely person will take one out of depression. – Psalm 27:10;  Acts 23:11.
