Theme: BIBLE PERSPECTIVES ON LEADERSHIP

Text: “So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.” – Deuteronomy 1:15.

Comment: It was for the purpose of grooming future leaders and to delegate duties to others that Moses appointed captains of thousands, hundreds, fifties for the Jews in his days.  And because the action was largely successful and beneficial in the administration of the people it became a custom among the Jews. (Exodus 18:13-26) Leaders should not be afraid to delegate responsibility.  It makes things to work faster and better, just as it trains other people to acquire leadership skills.  Those who want to do everything alone wear themselves out physically and mentally and slow down the growth of the organization.  Moreover, the people to whom tasks are delegated should be trustworthy, that is, capable and honest so as to merit being entrusted with leadership positions.  St. Paul admonished: “Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2.
