Theme: DISCIPLINE

Text: “And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.” – Joshua 6:18.

Comment: The leading text for today was the instruction God gave to the Israelites before they conquered the city of Jericho. But due to lack of discipline, Achan breached this instruction from God and stole “the accursed thing”. The consequences of this act of indiscipline by Achan brought calamity to him and his family members who were complicit in the ungodly act. (Joshua 7:20-26) King Solomon declared: “He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.” (Proverbs 15:27) We can see that discipline enables one to be contented in life as Apostle Paul said: “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” – 1 Timothy 6:6-10.
