Theme: THE SIN OF DISOBEDIENCE

Text: “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.” – Deuteronomy 28:1,2.

Comment: While talking about the consequences of disobeying the laws/instructions of God, we will not fail to also talk about the blessings that will be enjoyed by those who obey His instructions. God Almighty made man a free moral being having the liberty to choose between right or wrong, good or evil, blessing or curse. He also advised man on which path to take for his ultimate good. – Deuteronomy 30:19,20.

Among the numerous blessings listed in Deuteronomy 28 are that that God will bless us with fruitfulness, bless our endeavours, prosper the work of our hands, grant us favor in the eyes of people and elevate us to positions of honour wherever we are etc. – Deuteronomy 28:4,8,11-13.

Isaiah the prophet declared under inspiration of God: “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it” (Isaiah 1:19,20) Elihu added his voice when he said: “Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.”  – Job 36:9-12.
