Theme: Tolerance and Peaceful Co-existence

Text: “And in every province, wherthersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.” – Esther 4:3.

Comment: In the days of King Ahaesuerus of Persia, his Prime Minister, Haman, hated the Jews in his kingdom because Mordecai, a Jew, one of the King’s servants, refused to bow to him. Even though Haman knew that Mordecai did not bow to him because he was a Jew, yet he planned to destroy all the Jews. (Esther 3:5, 6) God came to the rescue of Mordecai and his fellow Jews in that the King promoted him, but he caused Haman to be hanged on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. (Esther 7:1-10) Christians should endeavor to seek peace and be tolerant with other people’s view while maintaining their integrity in truth and righteousness by God’s grace. The Psalmist declared: “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” – Psalm 37:27; 35:14.
