Theme: LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO?

Text: “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art Christ, the Son of the living God.” – John 6:68, 69.

Comment: Expectedly, people’s response to the truth differs, depending on their level of faith, knowledge, or spiritual maturity. It happened that, on hearing Christ declare himself as the “bread of life”, (John 6:48) and present his flesh and his blood to them, in order to gain life, “from that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him”. (John 6:66) To the twelve, he then asked: “will ye also go away?” (John 6:67) It was in response to this question that St. Peter made the statement as captured in today’s devotional. Do we, after hearing spiritually-inundating sermons from the Holy Bible, become offended when the same words of the Bible are used to chastise us? Where this is the case, it is a wrong approach. Like the apostles prayed, we should instead pray to the Good Lord to increase our faith. – Luke 17:5.
