Theme: PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

Text:

“The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD… Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath; for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land”.  – Zephaniah 1:14-18.

Comment:

The point must be made that this world has an end. Time is coming when the devil and everything that answers to unrighteousness will be wiped off the surface of the earth by God Almighty through Jesus Christ. At that time the truth of these inspired words would be made manifest. “Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.” (Proverbs 11:4) That day of reckoning will definitely come anytime within these last days. But as Jesus Christ said, “… of that day and hour knoweth no man…”       – Matthew 24:36.

Those who use their material endowments to support the work of God, thereby laying up for themselves treasures in heaven, are wise. As Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:19-21, such heavenly treasures are not subject to corruption or decay. And because one would be most passionate about issues he had made the most sacrifices or on the sectors he had made the greatest investment, Jesus Christ said: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”. St. Paul exhorted those who are rich to use their wealth for charitable works so as to secure for themselves God’s favour and protection in the day of judgment. –  1 Timothy 6:17-19.
