Theme: Christians and Vows
Text: “If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth”. – Numbers 30:2.
Comment: This is God’s undisputable regulation on vows within the family (Numbers 30:3-7), confirming the prime position of a man in His divine order. Recall that the Almighty God had told the woman in the Garden of Eden that, “thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee”. (Genesis 3:16) But from a spiritual perspective, if a woman makes a vow of penitence or any vow with deep spiritual motive, her husband may not void it, lest, “he shall bear her iniquity” (Numbers 30:13-15) This is not discriminatory against the female gender but this is God’s work in full operation that is unfathomable to mortal man. (Isaiah 55:8, 9.) The man is the head of the woman. – Genesis 3:16; Ephesians 5:22-24.
