Theme: KEEP THY HEART WITH ALL DILIGENCE

Text: “O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?” – Jeremiah 4:14.

Comment: The heart is the seat of emotions both positive and negative. Negative emotions such as anger, malice, envy, etc., stems from the heart, and if not expunged from the heart may push one to commit evil against a fellow human being resulting in dire consequences. Absalom harboured hatred in his heart for his half-brother, Amnon for two years for defiling his sister, Tamar. This hatred led Absalom to kill Amnon. (2 Samuel 13:22-29) True Christians are admonished by St. Paul to remove such negative emotions from their hearts to wit: “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” – Ephesians 4:31, 32; Colossians 3:12-14; Hebrews 10:22; James 4:8.
