Theme: BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD
Text: “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:13.
Comment: Apostle Paul commended the disciples at Thessalonica for being practical rather than nominal Christians. He was in effect saying that there were those who took the gospel preached by him rather lightly as if it was the word of men. The faith which the Christians at Thessalonica had in the word was evident in their way of life which had been ennobled by the truth. This was in contrast to the character of several of the natural Jews of whom St. Paul said, “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” (Hebrews 4:2) Our lives will witness a radical change for good if we give ourselves to obeying the word of God, whether it suits our desires or not. That way we shall, without pretence, be more active in attending church services, showing kindness to our neighbours, discoursing the word, and spreading it to others, supporting the word of God materially and in defending the faith. Jesus Christ said: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven…” – Matthew 7:21.
