Theme: SPIRITUAL KEYS TO HAPPINESS

Text: “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” – Hebrews 13:5, 6

Comment: Contentment with what God has provided, believing that He would continue to provide for our needs even as we continue to work hard, is a source of happiness. (Psalm 104:27, 28; Proverbs 28:19)  The person who is not satisfied with his lot in life will be weighed down by worry, anxiety, distress, envy and so on. “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content… For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:6-10) Those who are not contented with what they have are far from God and cannot be ardent worshipers of God in that they believe that it is material wealth that gives safety and security.

The conviction that God provides for His people is critical to having calmness of mind. “And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. “- Deuteronomy 31:8.
